Generally, international travel insurance is protection that is intended to cover cost of medical expenses, monetary default of travel suppliers and may include other losses suffered whist travelling.
The insurance may either be for short-term travel for as few as 5 days to as long as 12 months or long-term beginning at 12 months minimum term and extended beyond this period and is renewable annually. In both instances, the insurance is also arranged at the time a trip is booked to encompass exactly the length of that trip.
The insurance policy may be secured from directly from travel insurance companies, or through travel agents, from travel suppliers such as tour operators, and even cruise lines or airlines themselves. The features of the travel insurance policy procured from travel suppliers however may have less features and/or benefits than products offered by insurance companies.
The travel insurance policies, more often than not, offer coverage for a wide range of travelers including but not limited to business trips, leisure or vacation, student travel, adventure travel, cruises, and other international travel.
